Day Trip to:
Vancouver
Vancouver, Canada
is a truly international destination located just about an hour
and a half from the mainland ferry dock. It is surrounded by the
exquisitely beautiful snowcapped Coast Mountain Range on one side
and the waters of the Pacific Ocean on the other. The lower mainland
offers a multitude of sightseeing opportunities, cultural activities,
mountain and water sports, and entertaining pastimes for children.
In the heart of the city sits famous thousand acre Stanley Park,
where you can walk or bike for miles around the seawall, hike
along one of the many wooded trails, or laze on the beach to watch
the never ending activity in the busy harbor. Within the park
are the Vancouver Zoo and the awarding winning Vancouver Aquarium
Marine Science Center.
The area has many unique shopping areas, each with its own interesting
character. Visit the renowned Granville Island Public Market where
you will find the freshest in produce and seafood, delicious and
unusual deli items, and handcrafted wares from local artisans.
Street musicians fill the air with music, and yachts, small craft,
and water taxis motor through the busy little harbor.
Take a walk along Robson Street in downtown Vancouver for a fantastic
array of specialty shops, restaurants, and movie theaters or spend
some time in Vancouver’s Chinatown, the largest Chinese
community north of San Francisco. Gastown, on the edge of the
city’s harbor, is an historic Vancouver favorite with its
torchlights, steamclock whistle, and interesting shopping destinations.
When it comes time to eat in Vancouver, there are hundreds of
choices for every taste and budget—try a casual meal in
a little neighborhood café, dinner at a European style
bistro, or a world-class culinary adventure at a four-star gourmet
restaurant.
The area is a cultural mecca in Canada, offering extraordinary
museums and art galleries within blocks of each other downtown,
symphony at the Orpheum, and touring opera, dance, and live theatre
companies at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.
The entire family will delight in a visit to Science World with
its Omnimax theater and “hands-on exhibits. In Stanley Park,
take a ride through the woods on a small gauge steam train, or
enjoy a tour around the grounds in a horse drawn carriage.
Three local mountains offer skiing within a few minutes of the
downtown core.Kayaking, power boating, sailing, and sightseeing
trips in local waters are all popular activities year round. The
area also offers numerous beautiful, well-kept, and often challenging
golf courses.
