as local birds and wildlife, outdoor survival techniques, gardening,
and specialty cooking. We offer organized group excursions in the
area as well, and these include beginner kayaking (for all ages),
scenic flights over the sound, and spectacular whale watching cruises
in local waters. 
The island also makes a perfect home base for taking day trips to
the nearby destinations of Bellingham, Seattle, Mount Baker, and
Vancouver, British Columbia. The trip to and from the mainland takes
only about six minutes, and a round trip fare is a bargain at $5.00
for car and driver.
